Australia Open & Australia Day

We went to the Australian Open last weekend and had a blast! For just over $30 we were given access to any of the 22 outdoor courts, and were able to sit just outside the Rod Laver Arena and watch the two big matches going on that night on big screens!

We got to watch a legends match and they were hilarious. You could tell they were there just to have fun! They got the crowd involved and had us all laughing out loud. We also got to see a few other players who were ranked in the top 20.

We went on Heineken Super Saturday so there were plenty of people to watch who were 'having a lot of fun'. In the beer garden, where we watched the last two matches, there was a cover band and they were so fun! They played 'Friends in Low Places' but gave up after the first verse and moved on to another song...so different from home! There were a few songs that the crowd absolutely loved! Dancing in the Dark by Bruce Springsteen, The Voice by John Farnham, and The Gambler. They all went crazy when those songs played!

January 26th was Australia Day. Its the day that someone first landed in Australia. Since I'm not really Australian I don't feel bad that I don't know more details about that day (: We spend the day at the beach, had a bbq in the afternoon, ventured into the city for fireworks and ended the night watching the tennis in Fed Square with thousands of other people.

People wear red white and blue because they love Australia, but for us it was a chance to show our American Pride!

sorry about the awful quality, but this is a picture of fed square the night of the men's semi finals. there were so many people!

We went back to Fed Square to watch the men's finals! There were thousands of people! You couldn't move without getting into someones way..and with the temperature in the mid 30s it was so hot! Once again, slurpees to the rescue!
